Congratulations on joining your first-ever company-wide challenge! The Steps Challenge is a great way to start your physical wellness journey with your colleagues. Let’s go through what you need to do for the challenge and how this challenge will benefit you.
What do you need to do?
First and foremost, make sure that you have connected your wearable to the app so it can record your steps accurately. Essentially the next step is to walk!
The goal of this challenge is to complete 8000 steps every day for 30 days. The user with the most completed days is crowned the winner. If you do not complete your 8000 steps on any given day, that day will not be counted.
If you feel like taking 8000 steps a day is a difficult task to do, here is why it is not: think of how many times you need to walk throughout the day and think of the times you could walk but choose not to. Combine those 2 instances and you will get your 8000 steps in no time.
While it is a competition with your colleagues, try to focus on your own progress and achievement. Make sure the competition is friendly and that you are encouraging your colleagues to push through as well. Here are some ideas on how to get your steps easily during your daily routine:
- Take the stairs going up or down, if you’re in a high-rise tower perhaps go easy and take the stairs halfway down and halfway up.
- Take a few short breaks throughout the day and have a walk in the office or around the building, this way you get fresh air, do your steps, and take a refreshing break.
- Instead of ordering food in, choose a restaurant in your area and walk to it and back to the office.
- Hop on the treadmill for 30 minutes before or after work, whichever suits you best.
- Do your grocery shopping in person instead of online, this will surely get you a good 2000 steps in the bag.
The average walking pace is roughly 5km per hour which equates to approximately 7200 steps an hour. So you could simply allocate an hour every day for a stroll in the park, by the beach, or at your gym. This way hitting that 8K should be a breeze for you.
